A favorite of my grandmother and often seen on her table

by Sue Masten
(Springfield IL USA)

This recipe brought back such wonderful memories of my grandmother who in the summer planted several tomato plants and often had this salad along side her main dish. It was a favorite of mine. Sometimes, I add thin slices of cucumber -- or for those who have problems with cucumbers -- use thin slices of zucchini.

This has also been a favorite of guests. Although very simple, this seems to be something that nearly only German households ate - as so many friends often say, this is so simple, I don't know why I didn't think of it.

Thank you for the memories and the recipe!
